End of Season Awards, 2009

The official function funded by the club to celebrate the end of another great season took part on Saturday at the Winking Owl. As it was the evening before the Aviemore Highland Half Marathon, pasta was laid on for entrants to do some carb-loading.

The Chairman thanked all the jog leaders for their outstanding commitment, dedication, loyalty and reliability.  Without them the club members could not train and we would not have achieved the truly amazing results, PBs, SBs, largest number of races completed and the inspirational progress of all the beginners.  Steve also thanked every single club member, without them the club would not be what it is today; it is fast becoming renowned for its friendliness and everyone gives 100% each week.  Well done everyone.

The Chairman then announced the amazing news that the club had made it through to the jogscotland Community Group of the Year finals to be held in Glasgow on 31st October 2009.  The club is in the final 3 which is a fantastic achievement for such a small village-based club in its early years.  Lord Sebastian Coe will present the prize (Coe was Olympic 1500m Champion in 1980 and 1984, set 8 outdoor and 3 indoor world records. He was the first man to break 1 minute 43 seconds, and 1 minute 42 seconds barriers in the 800m event. He is widely considered to be amongst the greatest middle distance (800m/1500m) runners of all time).

Cairngorm Runners were duly privileged to welcome Ann Davidson, jogscotland Programmes Co-ordinator, to present prizes bought from club funds to commemorate specific achievements. Well done all the prize winners, although everyone in the club is a winner in their own right for all they have achieved this year.
