End of Season Awards, 2010

Cairngorm Runners Award Night
17th October 2010

By Melissa Wall

After a day filled with excitement following the Aviemore Half Marathon and 10km races, over 70 Cairngorm Runners and their partners attended the end of season awards night at the Cairngorm Hotel in Aviemore.  The 'awards' present the ideal opportunity for the club and the committee to celebrate the achievements of all of our members following another very busy and successful running season.

Following a brief introduction by our Chairman Steve Wall in which he thanked members for their attendance, jog leaders for all their very hard work during the season, Jeanette Meldrum who organised the evening (but sadly couldn't attend as she was full of the cold - luckily her lovely husband Dennis stepped in) and the staff of the Cairngorm Hotel.  He then presented the club's achievements for the year which included:

  • CR's nominated for the jogscotland 'Community Group of the Year Award' for the second year running;
  • 9 club members had taken part in their first ever full marathons and many others in their first 5km, 10kms, 10 millers and half marathons;
  • A record number of our members had taken part in the more local challenges including the CAT, Try-Tri, Corrieyarick and the Nairnshire Challenge;
  • We had a substantial amount of podium finishers in 2010.
  • Members had demonstrated our club's diversity by taking part in events in Skye, Benbecula, Stornoway, the Islands, London, Liverpool and Spain;
  • We trained more jog leaders - there are now 20 fully trained;
  • Cath Harris had organised her 3rd 5km race for Miles4Fun.
  • Involvement in organising our first race - The All Abilities 10km (350 runners)

A very good raffle organised by Jeannette was inter-mingled with the awards to heighten suspense!  Run-4-it Inverness gratefully donated the star prize.  After a very impressive buffet and some good humoured heckling form the crowd (mainly from Irene and Kathy!!) it was time for the moment we'd all been waiting for - the award nominations and announcement of the prize winners which were as follows:

  • Best Attended Male: Ally Lay
