This weekend David, Karen and Malcolm took part in the Nairn 10k, an annual road race on the coast, Matt spoke to David to get the lowdown on the day.
Thanks for taking some time out to chat David, how was the day?
This is an excellent early season race and a nice warm up before the Inverness half marathon. The course record is 30mins so attracts a high calibre of athlete, there’s a strong presence from the usual road runner clubs and an amazing array of super-trainers on show. I was chasing last years time and was suitably attired in my yet untested super-trainer (Hoka Rocket X3). I had managed to persuade Karen to enter on the Saturday, so along with Malcolm that made three of us. It would be great to see more of us at this event and plenty to recommend it not least some serious money for 1st -3rd places, however if 30:19 looks unachievable or 36:23 for the women then the buffet at the end is a great consolation, with a vast array of superb cakes to be had. Sadly I narrowly missed out on last years time settling for 45:25, I blame the strong headwind on the way out, rather than my untested super-trainer. My Rocket X3 were excellent providing a really nice cushioned bounce with a very notable forward propulsion.

Is this a race you'd recommend to the rest of the club?
Yes yes yes it would be great to see more CR’s at this event and while it’s all on road it’s only 10km and is an excellent warm up for those undertaking the Inverness half marathon. It’s easy to forget how much fun a 10k race is and to compete against other athletes. The logistics are easy, it’s well managed and amazing cake at the end.
